Ankle Pain, Swelling, Itching. Discoloration

A week ago, I fell off of a stage at school and hit my ankle on a wooden stair. This was on a Thursday and the following Saturday I woke up and it was red, green, black, and blue. I assumed it did this because I m anemic. I had no pain until that night. It started to swell up and itch/ burn . I also started to experience muscle aches all the way up my leg. I went to the Med Check the next day and they said it was just a sprain and sent me home with an air cast. I iced it as they directed and went to all of my classes the next day, on the way back to my dorm, my ankle started throbbing and popping. I could feel this all the way up through my leg. I went to the nurse to see if they could put me on crutches. They were very alarmed by the color of my ankle and sent me to the ER. There they did not xray my ankle, but they checked me for blood clots and i had none. They wrapped it up and sent me home on crutches. It has been a week now and my ankle will not stop swelling . It is starting to swell up into my calf and the color has turned blackish/red with a large hard welt underneath. The bruising has spread down into my foot where it is swelling as well. I feel no pain unless I am standing a long time or dangling my foot. It aches in the muscles when it starts to hurt and it itches and burns a lot of the time. I am not sure how much longer I should wait for improvement.
