3 Year Old Has Fever, Diagnosed With Transient Synovitis Of Hip With X-ray. Could This Be Possible ?

I have a three year old son, has fever was low grade 98-99, now its 102.2, was told yesterday that he has transient synovitis of the hip. He was diagnosed with an Xray only. I am curious if this would be the normal for a diagnosis of this illness. I would think there would be a CBC or WBC included, possibly an MRI, or even urine test but none of these were done. Is there a possibility that this could be septic hip even without excruciating pain, or some other diagnosis?

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

You have not mentioned the duration of the fever of your son. The investigations that you are mentioned are warranted but it would depend on a number of factors:
1. Duration of illness and symptoms.
2. Other associated findings.
3. Provisional diagnosis.
The doctor may order these investigations at the appropriate time as all investigations have their limitations and should be viewed in the over all situation of the case.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son an early recovery.
