Detailed Answer:
Hello Aravind,
Welcome back to 'Ask A Doctor' service...
I've gone through your query in details...
I can understand your concern...

Well, your symptoms are not so typical of the flu, rather it could be due to an impending pharyngitis or even some allergic manifestations...Montair is generally advised for long-term maintenance therapy of allergic manifestations and should be taken for at least a few weeks (if your doctor's suspecting the same).

Betadine gargle should be done at least twice to even three times daily. Additionally, do gargling with a glass full of luke-warm water mixed with a teaspoon full of salt) twice daily in an alternative fashion for the next few days. Stay away from any direct exposure to A.C ducts.

You may also take a Syrup containing Dextromethorphan and Pseudoephedrine (eg. Benadryl DR) 5ml three times daily for next 3-4days for symptomatic relief. You may require a prescription for this medication.

Please refrain from having any cold beverages, extreme sour foods as they can further worsen the symptoms. Avoid going to any dusty/overcrowded places for the time being. If at all you've to go out, use a face-mask or scarf over the face.

Take steam inhalation thrice daily. Always ensure to wash your hands with antibacterial hand-wash before and after handling the respiratory secretions, sputum etc. Avoid smoking strictly (if at all do).

Have plenty of hot beverages (soups, broths etc.) as they'll work as an immunity booster. You may continue taking cloves and some soothing cough lozenges (eg. Strepcils) for the time being.

You should be getting better with all these. If despite following all these, there's no improvement/if any development of FEVER/further worsening of symptoms within a few days, then please get yourself checked up by a Physician as there may be a need to start antibiotics and prescription based stronger antiallergics.

Let me know if I can assist you further...

Take Care
Kind Regards
