Brief Answer:
The underlying causes may be several. Please provide more information.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.

I have read your query.

Speech difficulty in children may be caused by problems with speech sound production, voice, resonance or fluency.

So, first is necessary to provide more information such as does your child speak but not sufficiently, or not, any problems with vowels or consonants, any problems with the understanding, physical difficulty with sound production, etc.

For a more comprehensive understanding of the problem it is necessary for your child to be evaluated by a speech-language Pathologist.

Hope this helps.

Waiting for more information.

Good morning,
My son speaks but not sufficiently, for instance if am back from work. He run and meet me at the door and hug and then say welcome Baba, and that is all he will get back to his seat and continue watching his TV. I realized that he has difficulty in expressing his self, he has to make an effort before he will utter a word. Sometimes we don"t understand what he is saying. He can identify numbers from 1 - 10 and count them by himself. The major challenges is you have to encourage before for him to utter a word. if you do that, he will repeat it after you, but you can:t get it exactly.

Morning Once again,
Initially my son was talking and even singing a nursery rhymes, especially Barney and Friends. He had a sickness, that is Malaria and Tonsillitis. Which was treated with Camosunate and Rocephin injections. he was okay, but all after that sickness he became reserve and started declining in Speech, intially we taught is normal some people have delayed speech. Until recently when a freind visited us and reminded me that this was murmuring and uttering some things before now. so i took him to the hospital and they conducted some audiological evaluation and said he is ok. but he does not talk, only mention Food, Tea, and Golden morn when he is hungary.

Brief Answer:
Both, mental and physical causes of altered speech are possible.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back and thanks for the additional information.

Malaria in rare cases may affect the brain, so, it is possible to alter the brain functions including speech.

If other signs of mental development are normal, then, most likely the speech issues are caused by difficulties in articulating the words due to pharyngeal involvement by tonsillitis.

In both cases, evaluation by a speech Specialist is required to get a correct understanding and treatment.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
