Question: hello, i have an issue that has been happening for years but ive never wanted to talk with a docter in person about it. Sometimes my penis starts burning after having an orgasm. I happens maybe twice a month. There have been a few times it%E2%80%99s just come on, but it%E2%80%99s much more common after having an orgasm. When I urinate the pain subsides, but then it continues to burn after I am finished. This pain lasts for about 20-30 minutes.

I also urinate very often. I always wake up at night at least once or twice needing to urinate and I believe it%E2%80%99s from drinking caffeine because I drink a lot of coffee. Over the last 7 years it%E2%80%99s become more difficult to empty my bladder. My stream is much weaker. Sometimes I will urinate and then feel like I need to again like 15 minutes later. This happens mostly if I%E2%80%99m in bed. I can%E2%80%99t recall it happen throughout the day.

I%E2%80%99m 36 and don%E2%80%99t know if it%E2%80%99s just something that comes with getting older and drinking a lot of caffeine. I%E2%80%99ve stopped drinking caffeine for a week and my symptoms did get better.

please let me know how serious these issues are.

Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Do urine analysis, uroculture and prostate ultrasound.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think the problem may be related to urinary track infection. I don't think this is much related to getting older. Caffeine can cause frequent urination because it has diuretic effects but can't cause burning while urination or incomplete emptying bladder.
Try to avoid coffee consumption later at night or after 6 pm.
I think you may need some more examinations to get investigated.
You can do an urine analysis and uroculture.
An urinary track infection is the most probable cause of your symptoms.
If this is the cause of your symptoms you may need to take antibiotics. Also using cranberry juice or tea is advisable for disinfection.
Also you may need to do an ultrasound of your prostate. Benign hypertrophy of prostate can cause frequent urination, incomplete emptying bladder and urination at night. It is not much common at 36 but is much common as men get older.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
