Brief Answer:
Pepto-Bismol or bleeding from gastrointestinal tract can cause black stools

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

The black stools are known as melena blood from upper gastrointestinal tract which is turned black due to haemoglobin being altered by gastrointestinal enzymes.
You are using also Pepto-Bismol which is known to make stools black and seem like melena.
I want to know what issues did come out from colonoscopy that cam cause melena.
Also if black stools come before using Pepto-Bismol or after using it.
Also don't take anymore Pepto-Bismol and see if the stools may turn normal.
If melena continues and you have references in colonoscopy for possible diseases which can cause gastrointestinal bleeding better go to ER to check the place of bleeding and help stop it.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Possibly blood coming from colon below colostomy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and please apologise me for the misunderstanding.
I think the black substance like a grape jelly more possibly is blood.
The blood may be coming from lower part of colon below the colostomy.
You may need to go to ER for evaluation.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

I don't think you understood my question. I had a colostomy, not a colonoscopy. My stool goes into a bag and looks fine. The black goo coming out of my rectum is not stool. It has the color and consistency of grape jelly.
