Would A Steroid Cream Or Injection Be Beneficial To Treat Itching And Rashes After An Insect Bite?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Apr 2021
Question: I received some insect (ant, chigger?) about two weeks ago. The area affected is my right forearm. I have been experiencing itching and rash which I've treated with Ibuprofen, antiseptic skin wash, topical lidocaine. It doesn't seem to be going away, some areas are blistering. I have a history of allergic reaction to bee stings.
Next steps? Would a steroid cream or injection be beneficial?

Brief Answer:
insect bite treatment

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I think the area is infected and inflammation is happening. A cream with corticosteroids and antibiotic may be useful to reduce inflamation and kill bacteria.
You can try using a cream with betamethazon and gentamicine for topical use three times a day.
If it is not getting better within 2-3 days but getting worse maybe antibiotics orally can be used.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best regards.
