Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that BNP levels are inversely related to BMI index.

This means that obese and overweight adults with heart failure have lower BNP levels compared to other non obese patients with heart failure.

So, the increase in your BNP levels is related to losing your weight and doesn't mean that your situation has worsened.

As long as you feel the same, no shortness of breath, no leg swelling, there is no reason to panic.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Is that kind of dramatic increase odd for losing 20 pounds in 6 weeks?

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

No, this is not a dramatic increase and without any clinical significance, as long as you don't have any symptoms like shortness of breath or leg swelling.

Besides, even the loss in weight has been considerable.

So, in my opinion, there is no reason to worry about!

Some ankle and feet swelling but have had it for years due to venous insufficiency. Rare shortness of breath due to asthma, but I can exercise moderately for at least 30 minutes at a time without pain. Sounds OK?
