Brief Answer: Yes, Antiretroviral agents increase the CD4 count. Detailed Answer: Hello, Welcome to Healthcare Magic, As your brother is positive for HIV infection, which was confirmed by western blot test and CD4 count less than 76,suggests that he is an AIDS patient. Fixed dose combination of efavirenz, lamivudine and tenofovir is used for the treatment of HIV infection in adults. While on treatment,CD4 counts should be taken on 2 occasions at 2 weeks interval to know whether CD 4 count is increasing. Any patients on antiretroviral drugs, it should increase the CD4 count by 3 months. If the CD 4 count is not increasing it is suggestive of resistance to antiretroviral drugs and different combination should be tried. As CD4 count decreases, the opportunistic infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa are common in immunocompromised (AIDS) patients. While on antiretroviral treatment, these opportunistic infections should be treated appropriately to increase the CD 4 count. Hope you got the answer to the query, if you have any further query feel free to post them. Thank you.

Brief Answer: Regular intake of ART drugs Detailed Answer: Hello, It is my pleasure to answer your query, i can understand your concern towards your brother. This is a disease which affects the immune system of the body and makes the patient vulnerable for infection. Measures which helps him to improve his conditions are 1.Regular, uninterrupted and continuous antiretroviral therapy, which helps in increasing the number of CD4 cells and protect him from getting opportunistic infections. 2. Cotrimoxazole prophylaxis therapy (CPT) should be inhiated at the earliest, because pneumocystis pneumonia is the most common opportunistic infection in people with HIV and the the major cause of death in people with HIV/AIDS Nutrition. Cotrimoxazole is the most effective drug against pneumocystis pneumonia. 3.Good nutrition is very important to boost up the immunity and fight against other microorganisms. 4.Keep him happy by giving proper counselling regarding the disease and keep him busy be involving him rehabilitative measures. Hope these remedies will help him. If you have any further query feel free to post them. Thank you.
