Question: When is Tamiflu prescribed?
Our 21 yr old daughter XXXXXXX was diagnosed with the flu and she has had a fever for 3.5 days now. Today the morning temp was 102 degrees orally.
Throat pain is only "mild"
Her chief complaint is body aches and malaise, fatigue.
Should I take her back to the provider and request Tamiflu?

Brief Answer:
No, I don't think she should take Tamiflu

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.

I can understand your concern...

Usually, we give Tamiflu prescription if the signs and symptoms of the flu are moderate or severe and in the first 2-3 days of the disease.

In her case, as per your description, it seems that her symptoms are mild and her temperature is slightly elevated. She can take analgesics like Acetaminophen or Ibrufen orally, plenty of rest and a lot of warm liquids for 3-5 days.

I think she doesn't need any further treatment apart from this.

Hope to have been helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
