Question: What treatments are available for cubital tunel in arms and hands? Also can you diagnose RA by symptoms only and if all blood work is negative for RA? If so what is the most effective treatment for early or developing RA?

hi if you know the reason for developing cubital tunnel like Arthritis for some other metabolic dysfunction like hypothyroidism then just treating the cause may give relief from the symptoms of cubital tunnel the other methods are by giving Physiotherapy to the area or by giving local injections and finally there can be a surgery which can be done to release the nerve at the cubital tunnel which is the final treatment , as far as the second part of your question is concerned regarding rheumatoid arthritis yes definitely it is possible to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis without doing much tests,or if most of the tests are negative because it is basically detection of swelling and tenderness in the involved joints ,now apart from the clinical examination there are other methods also available like doing an ultrasound of the joints or MRI of the joints to ascertain whether the disease is at an early disease and whether the symptoms are due to rheumatoid arthritis. in such cases of very early Arthritis or developing Arthritis giving treatment at the right time can give significant relief and also prevent the disease from becoming severe and does give a good prognosis regards

What medications are used for developing RA? Is mesalamine ever used? Sulfasalizine? What about methotrexate? How is it decided which drug to use? If I understand you correctly, if caught at early stage, medication can prevent RA from becoming severe. Is that correct? Do medications put RA in remission? Once in remission, can you stop Rx's? hi it is possible to put rheumatoid arthritis into remission if it is treated well in the beginning however it's very difficult to say which patients are going to go into remission , some prognostic factors are positivity for Rheumatoid factor anti CCP, inflammatory markers like ESR and CRP ,large number of tender and swollen joints, family history positive ,female sex, smoker - all these factors are poor prognostic factors however treating the disease early is a good prognostic factor .treatment maybe started with any of these disease modifying agents ,however the choice of a drug is generally variable depending on the part of the world where you are staying and the doctors are more comfortable with using which drug .however as such drugs like sulfasalazine methotrexate are first line, sometimes doctors also use combination drugs in severe disease however now it is generally recommended to switch over to a biological response modifiers which are biological drugs in case the conventional disease modifying drugs are not helping .
