Brief Answer:
mainly anticoagulants

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The main objectives of treating a clot in the leg (deep vein thrombosis ) are: (1) preventing pulmonary embolism (the clot going from leg to the lungs)
(2)reducing morbidity due to the clot- discomfort
(3)preventing post thrombotic syndrome (permanent changes that can occur in the leg due to clot)

The main aspects of treatment is anticoagulation (use of medication to prevent clotting).

The anti coagulation medication would reduce the chance of clot going to the lung, reduce the discomfort in the leg and if done well, reduce the chance of permanent changes in the leg.

The anti coagulant , such as warfarin, would stop the clot from becoming any bigger but will not remove the clot.

In addition to anti coagulation, you would also treat the risk factors that may be the cause of the clot such as decreased movement, this is the reason your doctor would have suggesting moving around more.

Moving around will help the blood to flow and decrease the chance of an additional clot.

Summary: (1) treating any risk factors such as decreased movement

Other risk factors are blood disorders

(2)anti coagulants

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
