default
Posted on Tue, 2 Sep 2014
Question: I had a 7mm lung nodule removed in march. Most if it was a granuloma but there was an area less than 1mm that was AAH. The only information I can find on this is very technical. I'm worried sick. What are the chances that I will now develop Lung cancer. What is the recurrence rate of the AAH that was removed. Where can I find out more information on this that I can understand.

Brief Answer:
hi and welcome to HCM

Detailed Answer:
Chances of developing cancer are the same as for general population so you dont have to be worried at all. Even if AAH wasnt removed, the risk of malignant alteration is minor. since this was resected completely, there is no risk that cancer can develop from this lesion so recurence cant occur, only new primary tumor can. AAH is considered to be precancerous lung lesion which can become malignant but in minority of cases. so this is not cancer, although,if found,it is better to remove it and prevent any complication. and it was done in your case so I dont see reason to worry.

You say that only new primary Timor will grow. Does this mean I am more likely to develop another tumor?
