What Is The Ideal Oximeter Reading For A 71 Year Old?

Question: Dr. XXXXXXX please - "breathing routine" - me again
I recently purchased an Oximeter. My reading varies from 97 to 99 throughout the day. My children
and grandchildren have almost identical readings. I understand the blood oxygen gets lower as we
age due to less efficient circulatory system. Can you tell me what the average oximeter reading would be for someone my age - 71. I'm wondering if this is more indication that my oxygen level is very high
due to the breathing routine. Thanks again for your time.

Brief Answer:
no this is quite normal

Detailed Answer:
oxygen saturation as measured by pulse oximeter, does not vary too much with age especially if heart/lung functions are okay. With these organs being reasonably healthy for age, saturation should be above 95% in a 71 year old.

so 97-99% is quite normal.
