What Is The Exact Cause Why Schizophrenics Have Thought Broadcasting?

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2020
Question: What is the exact cause why schizophrenics have thought broadcasting? Does the delusion that thoughts are exposed to others explain the distorted reality schizophrenics live in? If my understanding is correct (fix me if it isn’t), schizophrenics have confused boundaries between inner reality of hopes, desires, fears, etc., and outer reality of “what is”. Because their sense of objective outer reality is blurred and confused, they make delusions that explain reality that “doesn’t seem to make sense”. I read some journals illustrating that the goal of the psychiatrist is not to fix delusions, since delusions are spontaneous attempts of schizophrenics to make reality make sense (which is important is it not, that reality makes sense). If my understanding is correct, why do schizophrenics develop thought broadcasting? I want to know any kind of interesting theories or explanations of thought broadcasting. And I’d also like to know why schizophrenics talk to themselves aloud. Why are they incapable of thinking quietly like everyone else does?

Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Although the exact cause is not known about thought broadcasting, but this is considered due to abnormal thought control. Patient with schizophrenia ascribes his internal thought to outside world. This is because of distorted sense of self and personal boundary. Due to distorted boundary schizophrenic individuals fails to discriminate between the internal space and outside world.

From the above description it can be stated that your right in saying that thought broadcasting occurs due to distorted reality.

The other theories for thought broad casting derives from various abnormal thinking process such as derailment, fusion, mixing among others.

I hope this answers you to some extent.

okay Then how long will it take for antipsychotics to work to fix thought broadcasting? Do you think there is anything a patient can do to treat oneself other than taking pills?

Brief Answer:
Generally it takes 8-12 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Alike other positive symptoms of schizophrenia thought broadcasting takes anywhere between 8-12 weeks in most individuals. Although depending on the patient profile and chosen medications effect may become evident early by 2-4 weeks or may be delayed by 12 weeks and more.

The treatment of schizophrenia includes pharmacotherapy as well as psychotherapy and often combination of both yields better results than either of alone.

I hope this answers you further.
Thanks and regards.
