What Does Thr Following Blood Test Result Indicate?
Question: Hi, I am a 48 y/o male, healthy, about 5'-11", 165 lb. My CWP blood test results yesterday showed A/G ratio = 2.6 Iron serum = 187 and T3 Uptake = 41. All other test results fell within reference intervals. Should I be concerned that these three results are on the slightly high side of reference interval? Thanks.

Hi, I just uploaded a copy of the blood test. The first two pages contain my recent test. The last 3 pages contain a test I had about 8 months ago. I figured it might help you as a reference. Note that the bilirubin count is very high in both. I didn't mention that because I was diagnosed with Gilberts Syndrome about 30 years ago. My indirect bilirubin, therefore, has always been high.

I have gone through your reports and want to assure you that the A/G ratio is normal and the slight elevation is nothing to worry about.
Many Conditions can elevate T 3 - uptake values including chronic liver disease, uremia, Nephrotic syndrome etc but evidence for none of them exists in your labs.
Drugs like Phenytoin, Heparin high dose salicylates like aspirin and ibuprofen, Antibiotics can also cause an increased T 3 uptake.
An increased serum iron can be due to a number of factors including hemosiderosis (high intake or multiple transfusions), Alcohol excess, B 12 deficiency, lead poisoning or viral hepatitis.
Both the Iron and T 3 uptake are mildly elevated and would not warrant an extensive workup. I would advise you to repeat the labs in 2 months time and most likely they will return to normal range.
