What Does This Stool Test Report Indicate?

Question: my son age is 4 months old{ he is completely depend on bottle feeding} one month back he suffered from cold at that time i consult a doctor she suggested some medicines like antiboitic pecef and zincold pd drops and myzole kid. I have used also and he got relief from cold but after suddenly he is getting loose stools , stools mostly like watery, greenish gum like substances i have taken motion test report . in that report reducing substances is 1+ and mucus is present and pus cells are plenty remains all normal i want to know what happened to him and what is the analysis for that report and which medicine i have to prefer and dosage also

Hello,

I have seen the report and prescriptions.

The stool report shows mucus and pus cells which suggest infection in the intestine.
The presence of one plus reducing substance is a common finding (4 + reducing substance is considered to be significant) during infection and loose stool.

Here antibiotic treatment like Cefixime and Metronidazole along with some prebiotic, zinc will help.
You may continue the breastfeed.

You may also need to give ORS depending on the need of fluid and hydration status.

Watch for signs of dehydration like irritability, decreased urine out, poor feed, lethargy or shrunken eyes.

I'd request you to consult a Pediatrician for evaluation of hydration status and also for prescription of medicines.

thanks for your suggestion sir, but he completely depend on bottle feeding i 'm using milk substitute formulae milk for him .Is there any necessity to change milk substitue formulae to another one beacuse some elders one's saying that use soya milk powder for him in that lactose is not used so it cures as early possible suggest to me is there any necessity to change the milk

No need to change the formula milk

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Soya based milk is used in case of lactose intolerance as most of the other formula milk are lactose based.
Lactose intolerance is diagnosed by presence of significant (4+) reducing substance in stool.
In your case the stool teat shows only one + reducing substance and that rules out lactose intolerance.
So I won't suggest you to change the present formula.
Just try to maintain adequate hydration and it may take 2-4 days for the stool to get normal.
