Question: I asked a question yesterday and got a response then asked a follow up question and never got a response. I had a previos abnormal mammo so i had an ultraound of breast which read as multiple cyst. I also had am MRI. Well the doctor and i were seeing the preliminary film and there was a very small area 6mm that wih contrast would light up quickly then dissapear quickly. So she is gonna wait for radiologist report. What could this small area mean? Could it be cancer and what does it mean for an area to enhance so quickly and dissapear? Concerned

Brief Answer:
It shows a probability of malignancy and requires detailed analysis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

It appears to me that you and your doctor were probably seeing a quick wash in and wash out in the 6 mm lesion in breast MRI. This kind of enhancement is type III curve and there is a chance of 29 to 77 percent of these lesions being malignant.

However there are many other morphological criteria which have to be fulfilled before a lesion is labelled as malignant. Therefore you may wait for the complete analysis of the lesion based on both MRI and ultrasound and get a histopathological correlation if clinically indicated.

Please note that any other mention of multiple simple breast cysts are purely benign.

Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
Simple breast cysts will never enhance the way you have mentioned

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

A simple breast cyst will never enhance in this way. Cysts are fluid filled and some of them show rim enhancement. Your MRI requres detailed interpretation.

Hope your query is answered.
