Question: hello,
my age is 23 years. I am working, I travel 4 hours a day. My weight is 35 kgs. Recently, I suffered from fever continuously for at least 2 weeks. But now I have no fever. I have severe leg pains, and some weakness. I have done thorough health check up to know why i have this kind of illness. my typhoid report says,
S.TYPHI "O" 1:80 DILUTIONS
S.TYPHI "H" 1:40 DILUTIONS
S.PARA TYPHI "AH" 1:20 DILUTIONS
S.PARA TYPHI "BH" 1:20 DILUTIONS
no positive and no negative is indicated in reports. So please explain my health condition and please tell me the rest period for this typhiod because, the doctor said its in early stage.
please reply me as soon as possible.

Brief Answer:
Febrile illness and Widal report

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

It is quite possible that you had typhoid fever and recovered with antibiotics prescribed by your doctor. As far as Widal test is concerned, single titre is not much of importance; It is the rising titre (four folds) that is more indicative of typhoid fever done at an interval of 1 week. Also Widal test can be false positive (due to antigenic similarity with other pathogens). Prior antibiotic treatment also blunts the antibody response and it can be thus false negative.
Persistent weakness is common during convalescence stage of typhoid fever as well as many viral fevers. I fell it will pass off eventually .However you can take oral Vitamin B-complex tablet daily for about a week.

Hi sir,
my weight is less and all say that travelling (4 hours a day) is causing me weakness. or is it that, my weakness and severe leg pains are due to this typhiod fever?

Brief Answer:
Weakness and severe leg pains

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Since you travel 4 hours a day ,your symptoms of weakness and leg pains may be due to loss of fluid and electrolytes, particularly sodium which can cause cramps in legs. Check your serum electrolytes and take oral electrolyte solutions or simple salt lemon water drink ,if serum sodium is low. Typhoid fever ,if treated with appropriate antibiotic is unlikely to cause persistent weakness & severe leg pains.

Brief Answer:
Diet for gaining weight

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
A good nutritious high protein (60 Gm daily) diet will help you gain body weight & muscle mass. However you have to do regular exercise also (even aerobic like brisk walking for 30 minutes daily for at least 5 days a week). Food supplement containing soya protein powder is good source of protein apart from egg, meat, fish, paneer etc.
