What Does My Urine Analysis Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 May 2014
Question: I have a microscopic analysis of: WBC urine test of 11-30, mucus, urine = present, bacteria=few
Urinalysis = leukocyte esterase, urine = 3+
CBC = absolute lymphocytes count of 3.3

These were routine workups for Lupus Like Syndrome. I am feeling no particular symptoms other than fatigue. All other tests were normal. Should I be concerned prior to 5/21 appointment with rheumatologist?

Brief Answer:
does not seem related to lupus

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your query.

These reports don't suggest anything very specific to lupus.
It could be a mild urine infection , so if nothing else it should be followed up with a urine culture exam.
If there is a diagnosis of lupus with a positive ANA then these findings may hold some significance else not.
So nothing to worry.

Let me know if you have any doubts.

I have had positive ANA for Lupus and have been on Plaquenil for 10 years. Most flare ups have remained mild, but the need for prednisone limited to 2 or 3 courses during the year.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Does not look like a renal flare

Detailed Answer:
Hi

You still need to get a culture exam.
Other features of lupus like complement levels need to be looked at.
Generally renal flares come with high protein and RBCs or casts in urine.
