What Does My Lab Test Report Indicate?
Question: I have test results from ER , I dont have insurance and can't make a follow up appointment and hope you can explain lain the results for me.
I have an endoscopy done and the reaulta of the biopsy saysMicroscopic Description:
Examination reveals sections through portions of squamous epithelium showing
mild elongation of fibrovascular pegs with mild prominence of the basal layer
without intraepithelial acute inflammation. These findings are non-specific
and reactiv. Next results is ,IMPRESSION:The bowel gas pattern is compatible with a diffuse ileus.

I have gone through the biopsy result you did in the ER and I can say as following:
1. The full endoscopy and biopsy reports are needed to analyze them myself before running into final conclusions. Can send at the following e-mail address:

2. From what you are reporting, I can say that no inflammation patterns were found on the inner layers of the bowel mucosa, but the final conclusion was diffuse ileus.
For your information, ileus is a condition in which bowel movement is slowed. The major cause is abdominal surgery. At this point, I need to have more details on your actual health problems:
- what symptoms are you having for the moment?
- have you undergone any surgery recently?
- any medication you use on regular basis or just started recently?

Sorry ill try yo ask again. I didnt have any recent surgery. I was having difficulty swallowing food stuck in midchest and was given protonix 40mg for GERD.
I cant sem to be able to upload the results. But I want to know what doea this mean (mild elongation of fibrovascular pegs with mild prominence of the basal layer ) is it abnormal or what ia it. Thats in my esaphgus. And what does pattern suggests diffuse ileus is that mean I have it or not.
I just need to know if what I have is serious or it is not because I can't afford to go to a specialist.

Ok, then, you are saying that you've been using protonix for GERD. The use of protonix (which is a Proton-Pipe-inhibitor PPI) is often associated with slow down of bowel movements. That might have caused ileus in your case.
Ileus is a slow down of bowel movements, which in your case was caused by Protonix use. You can stop taking protonix (although given for GERD) and see if your symptoms will improve (you won't have the difficulty in swallowing food).
Meanwhile, you can take Ranitidine at bedtime for GERD together with antacids.
With regards to the biopsy findings on your esophagus, I can say as following:
Mild elongation of fibrovascular pegs with mild prominence of the basal layer = are showing changes on the esophagus mucosa due to reflux. In your case such changes are mild and showing early stages of reflux esophagitis.
From what you are describing, your case is not serious unless other causes to ileus would be present (and I am not aware of).
