What Does My MRI Scan Report Indicate?

Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: I have pain in my knee. I dislocated my knee 2 years ago and I also dislocated the same when I was about 13. I went to see an ortho doctor and had xrays which revealed that I had chipped a piece of my knee cap and an MRI revealed that I had a partially torn ligament and they incidently found a 2 mm lesion on my right proximal tiba but the radiologist said it seem non aggressive in growth and thought it to be benign. So I did some thearpy and let it go at that but now my knee is bothering me again and sometimes it feels almost like I have a toothache in my knee. I'm so worried that it is a tumor or something. Im 36 so I'm not sure I'm just worried about it

Brief Answer:
It can be due to ligament injury

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case. Usually growth does not causes pain. Most common cause in your case looks like ligament injury. Before I advised you any thing I would like to know little detail about your illness.
1.Do you have pain on walking or during rest also?
2.Are you able to run fast, use stairs and squat?
3.Can you send me your x ray and MRI images of the knee?
I am waiting for your answers. I will try my best to help you.
thanks

My knee hurts when I walk and when I sit but I work 12 hour shifts and I have a desk job and sitting with my knee always bent makes it really hurt at times. I don't have a copy of the xray or MRI I just know what they told me which was I had a partially torn ligament an d the lesion they discovered. All this happened 2 years ago and I hadn't had it checked since and it as hurt on and off since then. I've just worried my self to death over the past 2 years over the lesion not knowing exactly what it was. They did recommend a follow-up CT to confirm what the MRI said but my insurance would pay for the CT at that time

Brief Answer:
you need a fresh MRI

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for replying. I would suggest you to get fresh MRI to see what is the current status. There can be following possibilities.
1.Partial tear can be a complete tear now, than it might need repair.
2.I am not worried about that growth, but still MRI can show us what is happening at present?
3.We can also see if there is any cartilage damage is present?
I would suggest you to get a fresh MRI. I do not think you need CT scan.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks
