What Does My CT Scan Test Result Indicate?

Question: I have had a spasm in my back by my shoulder for the last several days. I went to my Dr Friday and she ordered xrays and put me on an anti-inflamatory and muscle relaxer. She got the X-Ray back today and her assistant called and said they saw nothing wrong with the neck, but there is soft tissue density in the shoulder and they want a CT Scan with contrast. She knew nothing else and the Dr wasn't able to talk. A little worried now about what it could mean/be...

Just a bit more information - I have gotten these spasms on and off for years. I have visited her many times and each time given the same muscle relaxer. Normally the spasms are accompanied by a migraine headache, although I do not have one this time. However, this is the first time I have noticed a bit of tingling in my fingers. Therefore, I asked if there could be another problem, like a pinched nerve, that keeps causing this to occur or if it just is because I am at the computer all day... This is why she ordered the X-Ray. I am just curious to what "soft tissue density" could mean, as googling anything medical always leads you to worst case scenarios. Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Brief Answer:
Such shadows can be due to increased bulkiness of fat and muscles

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

Soft tissue density means a haziness over the shoulder region which can represent increased shadow from fat or muscles ehich might have become bulky. It is clear that the bones are normal.

Sometimes such shadows can also happen due to patient positioning and there will not be any problems which is causing this.

However please get the CT scan done without any hesitation and that will help to confirm the cause of the increased soft tissue density.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
