Posted on Mon, 19 Oct 2015
Question: The CT scan for my abdomen found a hypedense lesion. The ultrasound is also performed, the lesion is 0.6 x 0.5 x 0.4 cm. They said it is too small to characterize. Could someone help to read the images? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Looks like a benign lesion means no need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome to HCM,
The lesion mentioned in reports appears white on this ultrasound images.
According to me there only 2 differential dignosis for this.
1.Small calculus which has less amount of calcium.
2.Small haemangioma.
Haemangioma is very common in some places and such a small lesion is not associated with any significant risk.

I would suggest don't worry for ths finding. 6 month follow up ultrasonography scan will be suffice to check the growth or change in character.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Is it possible that it is fatty lesion, based on their report?

The bright white area in the lesion, you mentioned, may be calculus?

Do you think the lesion is clear from outside? Is it homogeneous? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
i think lesion is clear from outside

Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome back.
I agree that lesion is clear from outside thats why lesion is benign.
There could be fat inside which is component of haemangioma also.
Such a small lesion are almost homogeneous. When lesion increases in size heterogeneity take place.

If you have further concern . Please let me know.

Thank you so much for your answer.

Did you see the wrap around it? Did you see shadow? Is it common for haemangioma to have shadow in this size?

The area you mentioned that may be small calculus which has less amount of calcium, is it a large calcium or small tiny calcium?

Brief Answer:
The lesion is too much small

Detailed Answer:
Hi, welcome back.
I have given differential dignosis as to remove any fear of seriousness. One thing is clear lesion is harmless.
However it is too small to answer all your queries.
Best thing we could do is FOLLOW UP after 6 month.

Don't worry too much.

Hope this has solved your query.
