Brief Answer:
Low Birads score suggests benign lesion

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Microcalcification is quite characteristic of carcinoma of breast.
However, there many other conditions which lead to micro-calcification on mammography like fat necrosis, sclerosing adenosis, radial scar, ductal carcinoma in situ etc.
Birads score is done to assess the malignant potential of the breast lesion and is rated from 0 to 6.
A low Birads score is seen in benign condition, thus, the lesion in your breast is benign.
Further investitaions like ultrasound of breast and aspiration of the lesion is required to know the exact character of the breast lesion.

Thanks and take care

Hi Doctor: Could these microcalcifications have developed since last year's mammogram? Also they are going to repeat the mammogram and ultrasound and also do a 3W Tomo if needed. Dont know what a Tomo test is? If they feel with a birad of 0 the lesion is benign. Then why are they taking these other tests? Thank you so much for your help. Brief Answer:
Further investigations done get more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Mammography does not cause development of micro-calcification or any other lesion in the breast.
It is a safe procedure.
Tomo refers to computed tomography or CT scan.
Further investigations i.e. ultrasound and CT scan are required because micro-calcifications are suspicious lesions however the Birad's score is low.
Since, there is discrepancy in the findings and Birads score, further investigations are required.
Do not panic, the further investigations are done to get further information.

Thanks and take care
