default
Posted on Mon, 31 Aug 2015
Question: I suddenly have started biting my cheek, tongue and occasional my lip. It occurs when I am awake and typically when I am talking. It almost feels like a loss of control of the muscles in my jaw. My only health concern at present Is a HgbA1C of 6. I am on a strict diet and exercise program.

Brief Answer:
Lip biting likely psychological, HBA!C high. Needs control

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Regarding the lip tongue and cheek biting there appears to be either medical cause like dental malalignment or a psychological one like OCD. Sudden start of lip, cheek tongue biting etc is unlikely a medical cause. I guess it could be OCD - obsessive compulsive disorder, but that would not be something that can be diagnosed over the Internet.

Any habitual condition, from nail biting to biting your lip, may not have a medical cause, but a psychological cause. Perhaps there is something stressful in your life that has lead to this problem?

Meanwhile you can place soft splints on yoru teeth to prevent lip biting or apply moisturizer cream over the bitten areas . Corticosteroids creams also help the inflammation.

As far as HBA1C levels are concerned, those are higher than XXXXXXX In the prediabetes stage. Also called impaired glucose tolerance. Strict diet and lifestyle control or it will lead to diabetes. HBA!C of 6,4 or more is diabetes. Bring it down to less than 5.6. You are doing good. Stay compliant to the diet control and it will come down.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

While I am certainly open to the possibility of a psychological issue, it seems to be very random. Stress might be the cause.
