Question: I squashed my thumb in my car door 2 months ago. Top of thumb finger print part was all ripped back and caused trauma to the nerves. Healing was slow and is healed now but was more painful healing than the accident. I'm now left with a hard lump which is painful when pressed on and is preventing me to use my thumb fully. For example can't use for buttons, zips etc etc. lump has sensation in it. What should I do and what is it

Brief Answer:
Will decrease with massage.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The hard lump on your thumb is likely to be due to fibrosis in the area of healing. This is causing a compression on the nerves thus is painful.
It is best to wait and do a hot fomentation and massage regularly. This is likely to resolve gradually in few weeks. In case the lump is too painful or is gradually growing in size then it may need to be removed surgically after investigations like MRI scan to detect the extent of the lump.
I hope this answers your query.
