What Does A Bruise Near Base Of Index Finger Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Question: I have a bruise where my index finger meets my palm. This happened two days ago.
When I bend it for an extended period of time the finger becomes white as if there is no blood in the finger. This happens when I play guitar also. What should I do when the finger turns white? I have numbness in that finger. Do I risk further damage to the finger if I continue to play guitar or engage in other activities?

Brief Answer:
Vascular occlusion can lead to discolouration of your finger.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

Bruise near finger base can be due to injury.
Vascular occlusion can lead to discolouration of your finger.
For these symptoms trental medication can be started consulting your doctor.

You may need MRI and Doppler to confirm diagnosis.
When ever finger turns white you should change position of finger by flexion so that blood circulation increases.
You can warm up your hand by rubbing against each other.
Lower your fingers towards ground so that blood circulation improves by gravity.

Yes there is risk to finger if vascular occlusion continues and you continue activities which occlude blood supply.
You need to consult your doctor and take appropriate medication.
As I also play guitar I will advise if you can avoid playing with bar cord instead use finger tip. You also can use accessories to avoid injury to finger.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Thanks for the advice. I'm performing a music job tomorrow and will be playing
guitar for 3 hours. Is this safe to do this?

What if I apply tiger balm or some other heat cream to the finger? Will this
temporarily eliminate the white finger?
