Question: I just noticed a black patch / spot inside my cheek . The center is very red and looks like the skin is broken. It's a little smaller than a dime. Very worried.

Brief Answer:
details below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
You have mentioned the site of concern as " inside your cheek". So the lesion is probably over buccal mucosa inside oral cavity.
Now a black patch in the oral cavity with red centre or raw area could be erosive lichen planus, herpes infection, erythroplakia or an aphthous ulcer.
I would need the pictures of the lesion to make a diagnosis, so please upload an image of affected area by clicking on upload report/image icon which is on right side of query page.
Also please let me know
since how long the lesions are present
if the lesions are painful
If any spicy food causes burning sensation over affected area.
If you had similar lesion in past
Any other skin lesions
If you smoke or chew tobbacco

Hoping to hear from you soon.
Take care

I am 27. I smoke 11-12 cigarettes a day. Recently, I developed a very small white granule on my upper part of mouth. I consulted an oncologist who suspected it to be erythroplakia. Assured me that it was reversible if I cut down on smoking. He also advised some multi-vitamins. I consulted another oncologist who even ruled out that it was erythroplakia. None of the docs advised a biopsy

I am a smoker (about 9 years), when I shine a light in my mouth, I can see all the little red veins in my mouth. My palate-pharyngeal arches are very red, like they are irritated, but I cant tell if it is all the veins or something like erythroplakia. I have numerous dental problems as I haven't been to the dentist in several years. Its almost as if the tissue inside my mouth is transparent.....what is the likely problem. I'm worried I'm developing mouth cancer or something, but I don't have any growths or sores.

Hello doctor,I am vegetarian. I don t take spicy foods, also not much of oily items. But I have been using chewable tobacco products only twice in a week but I never swallowed. I am having this habit for the past 5 years. Now I have stopped it but to quit need some time. How ever now a days I am feeling a kind of burning sensation in tongue and throat . Is that a sign of Cancer? Note: I had peptic ulcer problem earlier and even now If I take spicy food I need take antacid to avoid problems. I don t smoke at all and take beer very rarely

Hi. Today when I brushed and scraped my tongue, I noticed I had these long white hair type things. I have never had this before and I am really freaked out. I do smoke but recently cut way back so I don't believe that is what caused it. Will this go away on it's own, or do I need to go see someone? I also noticed I had two big bumps on the side of my tongue. They don't hurt at all, they are just really red.
