Question: Yes, thank you. I had a total knee replacement 16 days ago on December 6th and am experiencing considerable bleeding into the knee joint. It is red and swollen. I have iced and elevated considerably without success. Any suggestions?

The blood collected inside the knee should be aspirated to decrease the stress on the suture line so that it can heal. Any bleeding disorder or infection needs to be ruled out after a few blood tests. Keep the knee elevated. In the X-ray provided the tibial component of the implant appears to be broken.

A repeat X-ray will help in a clearer view.
