What Do My BP Level Readings Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 3 Dec 2016
Question: I take Bystolic (10 mg) twice a day. I took Lisinopril/HCTZ (20-12.5mg) at 4:00 p.m. My BP is 117/63, HR is 65. It is time to take my nightly dose of Bystolic. With my BP this low should I still take my nightly dose of Bystolic?

Brief Answer:
You should not modify the dosage schedule without discussing with your doc

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Your BP has a systolic (117) and a diastolic component (63). The diastole is the phase of relaxation of the heart, the phase that alternates with contraction. The low diastolic blood pressure is indicative of poor relaxation of the heart and also stiffening of the blood vessels. It is typical of advanced age. You need not be concerned. I would still insist you to take your Bystolic Tablet (Nebivolol) as scheduled. However, I would also insist you to discuss with your treating physician about dose modification of the ongoing antihypertensives since control seems adequate.

Let me know if I could help further.
