Question: Hi. I have just got over a bad cold and sore throat. I have now felt three pea sized lumps inside my tongue near the tip. They cannot be seen from outside, but I can feel them with my thumb and forefinger. Please tell me it's not tongue cancer as I am worried sick. Regards
Brief Answer:
They are most likely very small lymph nodes
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this bad cold and sore throat that you had and these lumps that you are now feeling. Cancer does not develop overnight and in multiple lumps at the same time. It would be very unlikely for cancer cells to start developing in three different locations at the same time. It is true that you can have cancer at multiple locations but, that happens following a spread from an initial site that must have been present and grown to bigger sizes.
From your information of cold and sore throat, these probably represent lymph node collections that increased in size during this infection in order to fight against the infection. They will generally regress in about 2-weeks following the resolution of the symptoms. Some may even persist longer but they in no way are suggestive of cancerous cells.
There is just no reason to get worried about this. Sit back and have a relaxed mind because the possibility of this to represent cancer is almost zero. Monitor over 2-3weeks and witness the regression in size all yourself. If it shouldn't, which is highly unlikely, it can be probed further into.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to request for more information if need be. Thanks for using our services.
