Question: I have been told I do not have diabetes, but when I miss a meal (I don't always pay attention, ADHD) I usually carry peanut butter and crackers so that we I feel shaky, dizzy, exhausted, and suddenly starving and weak, it helps, but it takes one to two hours at least before I get back to normal. Can yo help me?

Brief Answer:
You have to prevent hypoglicemia.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I have gone carefully through your concern.

From your description it seems to be reactive hypoglycemia but it must be confirmed by checking the blood sugar at the moment you have these symptoms and if it is lower than 70 mg/dl than hypoglicemia is confirmed.

Your doctor has to be sure that it is reactive and not organic hypoglicemia.
What seems unusual at your case is the fact that it takes too long to be corrected (1 to 2 hours) but probably you take low glycemic index food to get out of the situation.
It is important to prevent the reactive hypoglycemia rather than to treat it.

It is prevented by eating 5-6 times daily food with low glycemic index ( vegetables as broccoli, beens, carrots, bread rich in fibers, brown rice ect.).
Hope the information will help.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
