Brief Answer:
Interpretation of test results.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Creatinine value of 6.48 is high indicating that your kidneys are not functioning efficiently. High creatinine value with high BUN creatinine ratio of 40 is indicative that the inability for kidneys to function completely is due to reduced blood flow to the kidneys.

This can occur in situations like dehydration, renal artery stenosis, congestive heart failure, hemorrhage or blood loss etc.

This needs to be followed up with your physician by undergoing a detailed evaluation in order to identify the underlying cause.

Hope this answers your question.

There was a typo...the Creatinine was 0.48 not 6.48
but the BUN/Creatinine ratio was 40 (High)

Does that make a difference?

Brief Answer:
Follow up answer.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The creatinine level of 0.48 is better. It is indicative that your kidneys are functioning normally without any problems.
However, high BUN creatinine ratio is indicative of either
-Reduced blood flow to kidneys as in conditions I mentioned in above discussion or
-Increased urea in the body seen in trauma, Myocardial ischemia, gastrointestinal bleeding and sometimes urinary tract obstruction

Whatever is the case, the good news is that creatinine value of 0.48 reassures normal kidney function. However, you require detailed evaluation to rule out the possible underlying condition for high BUN creatinine ratio.

Hope I have answered your query.
