Question: I have been prescribed Lisinopril, Amlodipine and Clonidine and I feel so bad not being able to breath good, Irregular heart beat, flushing and weakness, so I took only Lisinopril a couple of days and felt better with blood pressure around 165/85. I woke up this morning with blood pressure of 237/90, so I took Lisinopril and Amlodipine and blood pressure stayed around 200/90 until lunch time so I took the Clonidine and my blood pressure went down to 144/79 within 1 hour, now I feel bad again, have irregular heart beat and can't breath good. I do have COPD and take symbicort which works very well. I am confused and don't know what to do. Do you have anything to suggest?

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for sending the query,

Your blood pressure is clearly very challenging to control. For this reason I think it is very important that you see a physician who is specialized in handling refractory hypertension. This is typically a cardiologist or nephrologist.

There are multiple new classes of medications now to control blood pressure and you may be a candidate for an adjustment of your medication regimen to control the BP better while not causing you to feel bothersome side effects.

I would discuss this with your primary doctor to see if he is amenable to referring you to a specialist for further management of this challenging issue.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
