Question: My mom is 84 years old .. she was in what I thought was great health until she broke her hip.. she recovered fine from the hip operation but went back to the hospital with hospital acquired pneumonia ..while in the hospital they discovered she had a heart aneurysm of about 5.5 in the aorta.. she is taking meds to control and the aneurysm has not changed in over a year.. she does hAve pad .. which I do not understand because her cholesterol has always been good but she was a smoker.. now she has had throbbing pains in her arms that keep her from sleeping.. she is in so much pain! What could be causing this? What tests should I ask for?? She is on several meds for her heart..and the Doc added a paying pill which does not help.. she takes a anxiety pill for relaxation.. how can I help her with the pain.. what could be the cause and how can I make her more comfortable..all other blood work seems fine!

Brief Answer:
Various causes

Detailed Answer:

Dear Ma'am,

I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns.

Throbbing arms pain could be due to a number of causes such as cervical vertebrae disc prolapse which causes entrapment of the nerve roots supplying arms . this can be diagnosed by a ct scan on the cervical vertebrae.

Another cause is vascular insufficiency or thrombophlebitis which are deceased blood supply to the extremities or thrombosis formation. This. an be excluded by a duplex ultrasound study on both arms.

Also peripheral neuropathy caused by diabetes of vitamin b 12 deficiency can cause such symptoms. I would recommend that you get yourself examined by a neurologist first to detect whether the cause is neural or vascular then proceed with the mentioned tests.

I hope you find this helpful.
