What Causes Yellowish Oily Stools In A Person With Gall Stones?

default
Posted on Fri, 29 May 2015
Question: I have recently had a Nissen Funduplication and Hiatal Hernia repair. I also have gallstones with occasional RUQ pain. In the last few days, when I eat anything fatty, I have a yellow orange oily film with my stools. It floats on top of the water in the toilet. Should I be concerned? Thanks. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Bowel Functions Derangement post surgical complication causing steatorrhea

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Oily stools is called steatorrhea and is usually due to malabsorption. With biliary stones and recent hiatal hernia such oily presentation on fatty food is common. Fatty food itself aggravates such condition.

So you need to reduce fatty food intake or take some bile salts with it to resolve this. Earliest removal of these gallstones by minimal invasive procedure would be wise.

>Supplementing various minerals, such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and vitamins, which may be deficient in malabsorption, is important.
>Caloric and protein replacement also is essential.
>Medium-chain triglycerides can be used as fat substitutes because they do not require micelle formation for absorption and their route of transport is portal rather than lymphatic.
>A gluten-free diet helps as well.
> a lactose-free diet helps correct lactose intolerance; supplementing the first bite of milk-containing food products with Lactaid also helps.
>Protease and lipase supplements are the therapy also needed.
>Antibiotics are the therapy for bacterial overgrowth.

COnsult your gastroenterologist for further management.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
