What Causes Weight Gain And Pain In Ribs While Treating Irregular Menstruation?

Posted on Sat, 21 May 2016
Question: My daughter is 16. She is 5 foot 9 and I would say about 225. This is the problem. I have been struggling for years to get her diagnosed. The pediatricians do not help. Her thyroid is borderline. She continues to gain weight. She is very healthy. Eats well. Some junk food but I would say a salad is her favourite thing. She has very irregular periods. So is being tested for PCOS. Her ultrasound was fine. A bit of follicles. However I am finding lately her face is getting very round. She looks swollen. Not fat but swollen. She has been complaining all week now of pain in high left rib area Spleen?? Medically I know something is wrong. A beautiful young girl who dances. Cheerleads. Runs. Should not keep creeping up in weight for no reason. Help!

Brief Answer:
Hormonal imbalance. Cushings syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Weight gain, irregular periods, migraine, round face (moon shaped), purplish stretch marks and PCOS suspicion all fits in to a hormonal imbalance disorder of corticosteroids. We call it cushing's syndrome. She needs to be worked up for the cause in this hypothalamus > pituitary > adrenal gland axis to find the culprit causing this hypercortisolism.

She is a well fledged case of cushing's syndrome. Take her to an endocrinologist and they will sort it out for you.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
