Question: my son 9 years old was vomiting and had loosen motions and stomach ache . He was given flagyl for five days 3 times daily . even after that he vomited and was having light stomach pain and loose stools but less frequency and some improvement . I showed him to a gastrointestinal doctor and he said to have rifagut 400 twice daily for 7 days . levazeo 25 three times daily for 15 days . rablet 20 twice daily for 15 days . panlipase twice daily for 10 days .normaxin two daily . zentel just once before bed time . iam little doubtful regarding so many medicines prescribed to a nine year old . though he weighs around 55 kg. for example i was reading on the net that rifagut 400 is prescribes to patients above 12 years . Please reply whether the above so many medicines are okay for a 9 year old .

Brief Answer:
Rifagut is unnecessary

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Vomiting, diarrhea is usually viral or because of food poisoning.

Rifagut is unnecessary in this condition and especially below 12 years there is no scientific evidence that it helps.

It is usually given for serious illness like hepatic encephalopathy and adults with travelers diarrhea.

The other medicines prescribed are safe and appropriate .

Wishing your son speedy recovery.

thank you for your reply .He is feeling very weak and sleepy after eating his first dose consisting of levazeo 25 , rablet 25 and panlipase . I don't know which medicine has caused him weakness suddenly . also is levazeo 25 safe for him that also three times daily .

Brief Answer:
All are safe

Detailed Answer:
All the three you had given are safe and will not cause drowsiness.
Maybe he is dehydrated and you need to give him oral electrolyte solution like WHO ORS or pedialyte.
Dosing and frequency of levazeo is the recommended dose.
No need to worry.
