What Causes Uterine Fibroids?
Question: Hello doctor,
I am 28 years old girl. I had unplanned pregnancy and so after long mental struggle and sadness, me and my partner decided to go for abortion. I had abortion 2 months back. after that 1 month was normal.
After 1 month of abortion(before 1 month from now), I found heavy menstrual bleeding and backpain and after check up i found i had uterine fibroid.
1. what can be the cause for the fibroids? is it due to abortion or pregenancy?
2. I am worried if i will remove the fibroids, is it possible that it will come back again?
3. I have hidden from the family about the abortion. We want to consult our family doctor now, is it necessary to tell the dr. about abortion? or dr. can perform the uterine fibroid removal without this information.?

1. Fibroids are the benign tumours in the uterus and are usually due to hormonal changes in the body, due to excessive estrogen levels. It can occur anytime during reproductive age group. It is not due to abortion or pregnancy. However, the size increases in late pregnancy.
2. Fibroids can be treated both medically or surgically, depending upon the size and other factors. Fibroids are known for their recurrence after removal surgically.
3. Your doctor can remove the fibroid even without the information about the abortion. However, if you have got a surgical abortion, then it is best to share the information with your doctor, however if you are not comfortable then there is not much to worry.
