What Causes Swollen Cheeks And Lower Lip After Having Lisinopril?

default
Posted on Sat, 27 Sep 2014
Question: Yesterday my left cheek and left side of lower lip swelled up and went numb. Went to doc who diagnosed allergic reaction to Lisinopril, even tho I've been on it over a year. Gave adrenaline shot. Then took me to ER for coriticosteroid shot, monitoring, and sent home with Predinisone, and antacid, and Claritin. During the night the numbness and swelling actually moved across my lip and is now on the right side, not much remaining on the left. Does this sound typical?

Brief Answer:
this can occur

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Lisinopril belongs to the family of drugs called ACE inhibitors.

Angioedema is a complication of ACE inhibitors. Angioedema refers to swelling of the skin, subcutaneous (under the skin) tissue, mucosa and submucosa.

The description of the change in symptoms can occur in angioedema. The symptoms can appear to be shifting to involve other areas.

It should resolve completely within 2 to 3 days though some persons ,once treated may experience resolution within 36 hours.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
