Question: Hi,
I have PCOS and my period was 3 weeks late. Which isn't unusual for me, I've just been put on Gedarel and had to wait for my next period to be able to take it. When I thought I'd started my next period i started it but my period has been really light and hardly existent but only been taking Gedarel for 2 days. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
Could be some breakthrough bleed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ms. XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query.

The spotting you have had is possibly a breakthrough bleed as you have started taking the medication. In many, when the pills are initiated, some amount of breakthrough bleeds are observed as the body settles to the new hormonal milieu. Also, it is common in PCOD for such spotting to occur intermenstrually.

If the spotting persists for a longer period, you may have to take the advice of your specialist while continuing to take the medication as stopping the treatment enhances the disturbance.

Meanwhile, please try to maintain a healthy body weight, regular exercise and a healthy diet.

Hope your query has been clarified. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
