What Causes Sore Tongue, Sneezing And Runny Nose After Eating Walnuts?

Question: My son ate a muffin containing walnuts, and soon after c/o sore tongue (it looked scalloped around edges) and was sneezing with runny nose. Symptoms resolved with Benadryl. Should I assume he has a walnut allergy? Do I need to take him to an allergist? He also has seasonal allergies, and had also eaten a burger cooked on an outdoor grill.

There is high probability that the symptoms were due to allergic reaction in response to food allergy(most probably walnut). Benadryl is an antihistamine which neutralizes the reaction.
