What Causes Snoring, Slurring And Temporary Loss Of Consciousness?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2016
Question: My husband has had unusual symptoms. He gets up from sitting, walks a few feet, legs start to shake, then buckle, and he falls. He seems to temporarily lose consciousness, which he doesn't recall later. He snores, appears to be asleep, mumbles, slurs his words. He is a type 1 diabetic, has been diagnosed with CHF, has a defibrillator. He has had a series of back operations due to previous injuries. Within the last few days he has had a myelogram, and a chemical stress test as we are trying to get to the bottom of this. Is this problem part of neuropathy, or what, and what should we do?

Brief Answer:
A sleep study needs to be done

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HelathcareMgic.

I have gone very carfully through the details providde. Your husband could have somnumbulism or sleep walking. He might not be consciously getting up and walking the distance. I would insist on getting a sleep study or polysomnography done. The results would be able to guide further line of action. This will also detect the possible correlation with obstructive symptoms which are responsible for his snoring.

There can be neuropathy associated but that itself does not seem to be the cause of the mentioned problems.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
