Posted on Wed, 10 Oct 2018
Question: My father is 69 year old. He has been suffering from skin problem for 3 years. It is a kind of skin inflammation that occurs randomly on his body, sometimes on face, neck, other times on legs, stomach. Initially, they are like red rashes on skin. Then sometimes they disappear automatically. Other times, they result into small oozing wound. Initially, it is itchiness then irritation.
The medication has shown negligible effect on his condition.

Brief Answer:

Oral antibiotic and potent topical steroid

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

He seems to have eczematous dermatitis.

If the skin lesions are oozing, I suggest him to take an oral antibiotic e.g either Amoxicillin 500mg or Cephalexin 500mg, thrice daily for a week.

Topically he may use a superpotent topical steroid ointment e.g Halobetasol propionate 0.05 % (Halovate ointment), twice daily for 2 weeks

He may also take an oral antihistamine e.g Levocetirizine 10 mg tablet once every evening for symptomatic relief from itching.

These are prescription medications and I'd advise you to talk to your local practitioner for a prescription of the same.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
