Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: I am currently having sharp pains in my stomach which radiates to my lower back. It is not constant but intermittent. The pains also radiates to my lower abdomen, almost like menstrual cramps but again, once in while. This just suddenly started this am. today. I am under some stress today.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am sorry for the health situation you are going through.

May I know if the pain started after eating?
Are you also having problems with bowel movements?
What about passing gas?
When was your last period?
Any burning or pain while passing urine?

I advise to take some chamomile tea and mephenamic acid to relieve the pain. I also advise to apply warm clothing to your abdomen.

Looking forward to have the requested information in!

I think it may be after a meal
Bowel movements are mostly consistent daily but can also be constipated one day or diarrhea in one week.
Passing gas is happening a lot. I know I have been a little lactose intolerant recently.
I am Depo, so no periods but just had a Depo shot the same week.
No pain during urination.
Major Fatigue, aches and pains, nausea, no appetite for several days.
Stomach grumbles after meals, even with no milk involved.

Brief Answer:
Possible viral infection...as following...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

Thank you for providing the requested information.

1. As you are having changes in your bowel movements, it might be partially due to Depo shot as it can be associated with GI problems.

Another problems might be related to:
- eating foods that might have traces of lactose as you are lactose intolerant
- bacterial overgrowth disease of the bowels; probiotics will help
- IBS, especially triggered by being under stress and pressure

2. The lower abdominal cramps might be also related to uterine contractions after Depo shot.

3. Fatigue, aches and pain, nausea and no appetite for several days might be related to possible viral infection associated with GI problems.
I advise to:
- drink plenty of fluids
- have light meals like yogurt, chicken soups, etc.
- take antacids to optimize stomach pH
- take probiotics to optimize intestinal flora

Hope it was of help!
