Question: Hi - My 20-year-old son is overseas and texting that he's had severe headaches in the back of his head and upper neck which have gotten worse over the past three days and don't improve with ibuprofen. They don't go away when lying down. He's had a meningitis vaccination.

Brief Answer:
Other conditions besides meningitis to consider.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Symptoms you describe may be caused by other possibilities besides meningitis after vaccination.

These include neck muscles strain, high blood pressure, occipital neuralgia.

Besides head and neck pain and stiffness, meningitis includes fever, cognitive impairment, lethargy, etc.

However, it is necessary for your son to be evaluated by a nearby Doctor in order to understand this condition better.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Take care.
