What Causes Severe Pain Arund The Temples?

default
Posted on Sat, 12 Jul 2014
Question: Hi!..I'm 19 years old and I've probably only had two headaches in my entire life. This afternoon I worked out, and then sat down and all of a sudden i started getting excruciating cringe worthy stabbing pain in my left temple...I kept rubbing it and for a second it would go away and then come back immediately. Also, Ive recently been having pains above my left eyebrow like throbbing pains at least 5 days a week twice a day. Should I be worried ? Is it likely to be a brain tumor or brain aneurism ?

Brief Answer:
do not worry, you may have migraine headaches

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query

First of all, let me clarify you that there are many causes of headache. The common causes are migraine, tension type headache or headache related to certain diseases like brain tumor, aneurysm, brain infections etc. The fact that you are having left eye brow pain frequently, a possibility of migraine is highly likely.

How ever, given the short duration of headache, it is difficult to exclude other causes of headache as I explained. I feel that you need a neurological evaluation by a local neurologist and get a scan done after consulting a local neurologist to rule out secondary causes of headache. If the scans are normal, you will certainly benefit with anti-migraine medications.

Your symptoms are not very serious, but worth evaluating.

Please let me know if you need any clarification in this issues.

best wishes
