Brief Answer: Symptoms are suggestive of migraine. Detailed Answer: Hi Ms XXXXXXX Thank you for posting your query. I have noted your symptoms. Based on the description, it seems that you are suffering from migraine. Since you have frequent episodes of headache, you would benefit from taking preventive medications, such as flunarizine, topiramate, divalproex or beta blockers. These medications would reduce the severity and frequency of headaches. In addition, for relief of pain, you could take rizatriptan tablets, when you have severe headaches. I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information. Brief Answer: Thank you for getting back. Detailed Answer: As I mentioned above, for prevention of headaches, you should take topiramate or flunarizine. The usual starting dose for topiramate is 25 mg once daily and it can be increased to 100 mg once daily depending on the response. For flunarizine, the usual dose is 10 mg once daily. These medicines may be required for 3-6 months to longer depending on the patient's condition. For relief of headache, rizatriptan is used. The usual dose is 5-20 mg each time. Best wishes, Dr Sudhir Kumar MD DM (Neurology)
