What Causes Recurring Vomiting Sensations During Ovulation And Periods?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 Jun 2015
Question: I'm 33 years old and since XXXXXXX I've been vomitting twice a month. Once every hour for three to four hours. I notice it happens before my cycle and ovulation. My doctors thought it was acid reflux but I have no stomach pains, no heartburn, don't fill ill before or after. No one seems to know what's going on. Any ideals.

Brief Answer:
Epigastric nerve involvement during menstrual changes...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Vomiting twice a month, especially before your cycle and ovulation might be due to epigastric nerve involvement during menstrual changes.

Such changes will also aggravate stomach acidity resulting in vomiting. I advise to run an abdominal ultrasound to exclude PCOS( policistic ovar) and if they are present, to start proper treatment.

Another possible problem might be related to gallbladder issues that should be further evaluated through:
- abdominal ultrasound
- liver function test.

For the moment, I advise to:
- increase fluids intake during those days
- take mephenamic acid (ponstan) for the pain during your menstrual bleeding or ovulation
- take antacids to stabilize stomach pH
- avoid foods that would trigger vomiting: oily, salty, processed foods
- take chamomile tea at bedtime
- use metochlopramid during those days.

Hope it was of help!
